Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Edward Lee was born in Queens and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. While attending high school at Poly Prep in Brooklyn, he excelled in his studies while competing with the soccer and wrestling teams. Later at Tufts University, Dr. Lee earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics. During his four years of undergraduate study, Dr. Lee also took an active role in the community as a liaison for campus events and helped planned the entertainment for everything from fraternity parties to basketball games.

After graduating from Tufts University’s School of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Lee spent another four years in Boston at Tufts University’s School of Dental Medicine. He continued to use his leadership abilities as a mentor for his younger peers. His capacity for understanding procedural ideas as well as his exceptional eye for detail and skill made him a valuable resource for his peers and classmates. Dr. Lee continued to take an active role in his dental community as a member of the national dental fraternity, Delta Sigma Delta, and served as president of the Asian Dental Student Alliance.

Following dental school, Dr. Lee completed a general practice residency at the prestigious Veterans Association Hospital in Brooklyn, just steps away from his high school. There he met his wife, a Maryland native, who is also a dentist. On their days off, Dr. Lee and his wife can be seen running around the neighborhood chasing their toddler son.

Dr. Lee is an active member of the Second District Dental Society, the New York State Dental Society and the American Dental Association.

For Dr. Lee, the needs of his patients come first. He sees patient education as a vital component of his clinical philosophy and continues to promote optimal dental healthcare for all his patients. He believes seeing the dentist should be comfortable and enjoyable, so he takes great pride in trying to make comfort a reality for people of all ages.

Richard Lee, DMD

Dr. Lee is a Board-certified orthodontist and an active member of the American Association of Orthodontics.

Dr. Richard Lee grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn with his brothers, Edward and Nicholas. He attended Poly Prep, where he graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the Cum Laude Society, a national scholastic honor society. Dr. Lee worked in the film and television industry as a producer for a street magic TV series that aired in 45+ countries prior to becoming a dental healthcare practitioner.

After fulfilling an artistic goal in the film and TV industry, Dr. Lee was ready to continue his path toward his ultimate passion of being a healthcare provider. He attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now Rutgers University) for four years, where he served as president of the student government, ASDA chapter president, and president of the Asian American Dental Club. Dr. Lee served as liaison on multiple committees concerning policies and operations at the institution.

He served in multiple school programs speaking and interacting with high school and college students interested in the field of dentistry. Dr. Lee graduated dental school with an induction into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a prestigious national dental honor society, and awards including the Award for Exceptional Interest in the Development in the Orofacial Complex from the American Association of Orthodontics.

Following dental school, Dr. Lee would stay at UMDNJ for another three years to complete his orthodontic residency. There he trained in all the various aspects to provide optimal orthodontic treatment to his patients. Dr. Lee continued his position as mentor, lecturing about the field of orthodontics and participating in panel discussions with other dental specialists. Dr. Lee served as chief resident during his last year in residency.

Dr. Lee is driven in his work knowing not only the functional benefits possible with a proper occlusion but also the emotional benefits of improving a person’s smile.

Cheryl Poon, DDS

Dr. Cheryl is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist. She was a touch-it-all child at the dentist and was completely fascinated with all the cool tools and gadgets. She had her eyes set on being a dentist at a young age. Her dreams came true when she was accepted into an accelerated program, which allowed her to become a dentist in 7 years instead of 8 years. Even with an accelerated curriculum, Dr. Cheryl graduated Summa Cum Laude from SUNY Geneseo with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She then graduated Magna Cum Laude from SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and was top 10 in her class allowing her to be inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.

It was then in her General Practice Residency in Newark that she found her passion for treating children. Dr. Cheryl still fondly remembers treating a scared little girl where she was able to channel her long-lost creativity and make an appointment full of sleepy teeth, sugar bugs and princess castles. She continued on her journey to pursue her pediatric dental training at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center and served as chief resident in her second year. She is also a recipient of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Richard C. Pugh Achievement award for scoring in the top 3% of the written boards.

In her spare time, Dr. Cheryl enjoys going to concerts, watching movies, baking and traveling the world one country at a time. She is also passionate about giving back and volunteering her time to provide dental care to underserved populations. For the past 5 years, she has become an essential part of an outreach group that travels to Guatemala annually to treat the population who otherwise has no access to dental care.

Dr. Cheryl understands that every child is special and needs tender love and care tailored to their individual needs. She takes a conservative approach to dentistry and believes that prevention is the most important goal in dentistry. She strives to give every patient a fun and positive experience to pave the way for a lifetime of happy and healthy smiles!

Nancy Yu, DDS

Dr. Yu cherishes the time that she gets to spend with her enthusiastic young patients and their families. Though Dr. Yu’s greatest joy is in helping bring out a child’s best smile, aside from her years of experience she also has a repertoire of Mom jokes to help with this.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, Dr. Yu went on to finish her Dental education at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, before leaving her home state to attend her residency in Brooklyn.  While in New York Dr. Yu began serving children in foster care and in at risk communities and discovered a passion in pediatric dentistry that she could not deny.  Furthering her education at the One Brooklyn Health, Brookdale Medical Center and serving as chief resident in her second year, Dr. Yu was excited to bring her expertise and passion to the Park Slope neighborhood.

Now having spent nearly a decade in the Park Slope community with her husband and two boys, Dr. Yu loves to spend her free time with her family in the local parks or at many of the other family friendly community hot spots, or sitting down with her family to try out a new recipe.  She is particularly looking forward to when her boys are old enough to join her in her community service efforts, so they too can see how much one can gain by giving.

Dental Assistant

Born and raised in the Philippines, Eva comes to Park Slope with a passion for dentistry. She loves every aspect of her job, though fuel for her passion is seeing the positive impact she makes on her community one smile at a time. This mother of three doesn’t have much free time in her off-hours, Eva loves spending time cooking up savory treats, relaxing with friends, or checking out the latest I-pod apps.

Nothing makes Victoria happier than seeing a patient who is so happy with their smile that they can’t help but share it with the world. It’s because of this, that our native Brooklynite decided to enroll in the Dental Hygiene program at New York City College of Technology after already earning a degree in Economics from Hunter College.
Victoria Loves the outdoors and can be found hiking or traveling at any chance she can get. Though when the weather isn’t permitting, having a cozy night with Netflix or heading out for drinks with friends can be just as enjoyable.

Registered Dental Hygienist
If there is one thing that Leah values, it is education. She has degrees in Psychology from Queens College and Hygiene from City Tech and is certified in both Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide Sedation. It is this love of education that Leah is most excited to share with her patients. Not just treating their concerns, but also helping them understand the problems so that they can be an active participant in their oral health progress.
Having traveled with her family at a young age from South Korea to Queens, New York, Leah discovered an early love of music and still finds playing the piano to be a soothing way to spend her free time. Though free time is a rarer treat these days as Leah and her husband are enjoying the bliss of their first child.
